Fancy tool
This is not my first rodeo with Paul Mitchell products. This is a thicker barrel which is what I was looking for. It creates nice curl in my hair. If you are looking for big curls your hair has to have length. My hair is passed my shoulders and I was able to get a big curl in there. Previously I had purchased the same size barrel but not in ceramic and I wasn’t getting any type of curl. I alwyas recommend ceramic for my type of hair. I have thick wavy hair. I first straightened it a day before then did the curls or else I feel like it doesn’t hold. The heat is very high so be careful. The ease of use takes practice if you have never used a curling iron.

It Does What It Does
I was looking for a replacement for the 1.75 inch barrel Hello Kitty curling iron I bought in Japan several years ago, which functioned fine but was a little intense on my hair. It is hard to find that size, so I bought this Paul Mitchell Express Ion Curl Ceramic Curling Iron on sale. It does what it is supposed to do, which is a faux blowout, but it isn't magical. Pros: Heats up quickly with multiple settings. Cons: Probably won't do well on fine hair (your hair will slip) and this is not for a curly look. Think 90s bombshell blowout inspo or Topanga instead. Also, if you wonder while using it, "What's burning?" The answer is your hair. Even with leave-in conditioner, a serum, and heat protectant, your hair will smell like last night's dinner that was scorched on HI broil.

Does not curl.
I was so excited to get this curling iron. It does not curl. In addition to, the clamp does not hold the hair. It literally falls right out of the clamp. Ugh, what a HUGE a disappointment. I generally love Paul Mitchell products.

Amazing curling iron but short barrel
I’ve had this for a couple months and can say that it really is a high quality curling iron. I love everything about it. One thing I will caution about is that the barrel is rather short which could be an issue for longer hair. It doesn’t bother me at all since I only curl the ends of my hair to create a faux blow out look, and this curling iron is perfect for that.

Love it
I have learned that when buying hair curlers or straighteners that it is worth it to spend a little money and get ceramic. This was a good deal for the quality. Ceramic head works well on my thick, curly hair without leaving split ends. There are three sizes of curling heads but I have only used to largest to date. Very happy with how my hair looks when I use it.

Clamp won’t hold fine or thinner hair
Like other reviewers have stated, the clamp spring is too loose and will not hold fine or thin hair- your hair will slide right through rendering the iron useless. If you have lots of hair, this iron will be great. Other than the loose clamp, the iron is well made - good temperature control, ceramic surface to protect hair and auto shutoff.
