Cat's Meow of Smartphone Macro Add-On Lenses
Spent some time looking for a macro lens attachment for my years old Huawei Mate 9 smartphone.Surprisingly there is very little difference in user ratings for macro attachments on Amazon. After studying those reviews and buying this unit I see the key point missed. This particular lens has a 100mm focal length and both magnifies the image and closer focusing to get macro images. Most of the other macros are simply intended to reduce focus distance on your wide angle smartphone lens to get a macro image. They in fact brag about their cheaper to produce single lens system not being tainted by extra glass elements. This is a ridiculous as quality multi element lenses can be produced that are much cleaner than smartphone base glass that is clouded up from spending its time in your pocket. It is further made ridiculous by the necessity to place these lenses 10-20mm from their in focus object. This causes huge problems in accessing the image and getting proper lighting on the subject. Instead you can operate at about 60mm focus distance using this lens with far more flexibility. For reference I have included photos of Lincoln's and Georges $5 $1 bill photos using my digital zoom to push it to limit. My only dislike of this product is that rear lens cover does not work on the full assembly. But not big problem. I simply use a piece of blue painters tape to keep it clean.

Outstanding quality. Fast email support, too.
I had a concern about my lens and I emailed them. Their email address was on the card that was included with the lens. I didn’t expect a reply back for a few days, but is as surprised to get a reply back in about 10 minutes. This was at 9PM, too. I replied back, and they replied again — all in about 10 minutes and they made me a very happy customer. This product is very different from other macro lenses — THIS lens is HUGE — much more working distance than the older macro lenses out there. I love it. The clamp is solid and will thought out. There’s a screw to further secure it which is something the other lenses do NOT have. Very nice. I did put a bit of rubber tape on the lens clamp to accommodate my bulky iPhone 12 Max Pro case. It worked perfectly, BUT I do feel you’re going to get the best “seal” without a case... or at least with a very minimal plastic TPU case. That being said, because this lense DOES work with my bulky style otter-shell case, I’m impressed. I also own several LEICA lenses. APEXEL really stands out.I would love to own their other lens kit — someday. My experience with this particular lens made me wanting to try the others much more now.

With Otterbox, works with small mod
I'm lowering my rating. I am very pleased with the lens quality. However, there are rubbery pads on the clip that are glued on with a gummy adhesive that is extremely heat sensitive. In only moderately warm conditions, the pads slid off the clip and left behind a sticky, gummy surface. I'm afraid that with time, this will transfer to the lens. The pads on the clip need to be glued on with a better adhesive.Original review: I've been wanting to try a Smartphone macro lens for some time, but couldn't find one that would work with an Otterbox case. I have an old iPhone 6 Plus, and taking the Otterbox case on and off isn't practical. I bought this since it said it could fit my phone. It does, with a caveat. While the clip can hold onto the phone case, the lens doesn't lie flush. I tried using packaging tape to hold the end of the clip down, but it wasn't strong enough. Then I tried a heavy-duty rubber band, which came with my produce. That does the job, and I can leave it on the phone for convenience. As with most macro lenses, the entire image will not be in focus. Most images will still need to be cropped, but I do this with most of my pictures anyway. I'm including some pictures taken with the lens. All were taken by hand. Often I just set the bottom of the phone on the ground and then leaned it toward the object being photographed. The largest spider is incredibly small, about the size of a small sewing-pin head. Behind her you can see a smaller animal, which I didn't even realize was there. It was the size of a pencil dot on a piece of paper. Another photo shows a spider alone. This tiny creature was bigger than a pencil dot, but still quite small -- an sixth of a pin head? A different picture shows a basil leaf, and one can even see the pores. Very happy with this purchase. As long as the clip hold up, I'm good.

Does not fit iPhone 16
Despite saying in the details that it’s compatible with the new iPhone 16, it is not. I got it thinking it would be able to carry over when I upgraded my phone but The clips don’t fit the lenses. It was fine iPhone 12.Edit: the company contacted me and sent me an updated model which did fit my new phone. Great to a see a company with good customer service. Thank you for solving my issue.

It’s great if you know it’s limits
This lens is a ton of fun to use. I have used it with an iPhone 8 and an iPhone 11 Pro the attached images are samples. (I do post process in Lightroom) It’s capable of producing out standing images in god light, its quality really falls apart though in anything less than ideal light. The other limiting factor with this lens is that has a fixed focus distance, getting the phone the perfect distance from the subject to get the image sharply in focus can be a real challenge. That being said, to is definitely possible to get the good images, and the images you get simply can’t be made any other way. When I show people the pictures taken with it they always assume is from my dslr, and they re downright shocked when they find out it’s my phone. My recommendation is to shoot in really bright outdoor conditions and take several shots each time, moving slightly to shift the focus so that out of the bunch you get at least one image that you like. It definitely takes some work to use, and get used to, but the results are totally worth the effort.
