Midway Arcade Origins (PS3)

Amazing retro stuff. I don't care much for the trophies, but that's me. The reason why other games aren't on there - i.e. Mortal Kombat II and III is because of the fact that WB games and Neversoft Entertainment Inc have made the Arkade Kollection for MK on Xbox 360 and PS3 (I think it's on Steam, not sure)If you're a real retro gamer who remembers wasting quarters/coins in the arcade playing games like this, grab it, you'll enjoy it more. There are tons of trophies, but it's a waste of time since most of them are like "Play SpyHunter II for 15 consecutive minutes" (when you can sit at the main menu for that alloted time) etc.

Only bought this for 2 games(championship sprint and super sprint) worth it alone just for these! Brought back great memories of Saturdays spent at the local arcade when in my teens! This is only enjoyable for the REAL veterans that were there to enjoy these most addictive games of their time first time around. I am not pretending that it has 100% feel of the original arcade, but as far as graphics, and the sounds of them engines revving up when you throw your 10p into the slot to join....ah Heaven!

Half of the games found on this collection are utterly forgettable relics and obscurities that would hard to enjoy on any level these days. I am NOT one for nostalgia when it comes to video games (or much of anything, for that matter), but even the most hardcore nostalgic fans will be hard-pushed to enjoy mind-blowing garbage like Joust or Spy Hunter 2.The other half of the games on this collection ARE actually quite good, but the PS3 is not the platform for them. The arcade, with arcade controls, and arcade screens, is where they belong and they plain and simple do not translate well to home consoles. I love APB, and Toobin' is fun, and SMASH TV is awesome, but they were not designed for a PlayStation controller in mind.Not only that, but Midway's best ever game, NARC, is not included. What on Earth were they thinking leaving this classic off the collection? It would be the only one that WOULD work perfect on the PS3 and yet they leave it off? Madness!All trophies are based on Score Attack mode, not Arcade mode, which makes hunting the harder ones (hard mainly because of the terrible controls) all the more infuriating. It's tough to rate the graphics and sound since they are all from different parts of the 80s, but the overall presentation is nice.Midway should instead just release some of their better games on the PSN with full trophy support and avoid collections like this. I was done with it in only four days. It was such a disappointment and not worth the money.

Whilst age may cloud my memory these games are exactly as I recall them from my youth.Fabulous array of excellent retro video games will continue to be played way beyond the day other premium games are consigned to the second hand shop.One word of warning and reminder for those with rose tinted spectacles or too young to remember. Graphics were more blocky in those days!

Being a kid growing up in the 80's and 90's, I loved playing classics like Root Beer Tapper and Total Carnage etc... This Retro collection brings together some fine Midway gems indeed, and they look and play brilliantly on the PS3 with trophies like. So if like me, you love the games of yesterday, then I'm sure you'd love this fine collection even more friends :) It's retro goodness all on one Blu-Ray PS3 disc, paradise indeed...

A great collection of classic arcade titles that look great in HD. A few minor control issues though. Overall though a great collection.

I've been searching in vain for a copy of Robotron 2084 - IMHO, the greatest of the old arcade games. Not only is it here, but so are both versions of Joust. The PS3 joystick makes playing them a little "fiddly", but that's a minor niggle. Lots of other Midway games here, but I haven't been able to get past the two I've mentioned. Well worth the purchase.

I'm able to play a load of old school games that I forgot about and some that I've wanted to play again that I haven't done for years.
