Active Arithmetic!: Movement and Mathematics Teaching in the Lower Grades of a Waldorf School

Not for single learner
It is what it is. The book is rich of creative practices to learn arithmetic. However, you need a fully engaged group of children to run that show. I wouldn't recommend for just a homeschool learner. I would also warn, by experience, some students are good are remembering math facts through rythm, but are somewhat incapable of regurgitating them out of context. They become reliant on songs/rythms. Every learner is different. Some may benefit from this book, which is different in practices, and some may not. Great book overall.

More theory and idea then actually lessons and basic concepts. Harder to read since it's being translated.

Great resource!
As a new Waldorf teacher, I've found this book very valuable. Lots of ideas for math games and exercises and explanations of the "why" behind how math is taught in Waldorf schools. This should last me through 4th or 5th grade!

out-of-seat exercisesto learn math concepts--if you have strong skills
An inspiring and artful collection of templates and exercises for you to create your own imaginative math activities. As in Euryrhthmy class, strong classroom managmentment skills are required to pull these off. Here's the thing; YOU will want to do them because of their artful inspiration. However the CHILDREN will only follow you into these if they respect you and wish to follow you. They are doing them for YOU not for the beauty of the exercise.I treausred my copy and no other book even remotely similar exists in the area of math, to my knowledge. The other related book is the Take Time book of rhythmic beanbag exercises which require far LESS classroom managment skill to pull off

This book would be great for teachers
This book would be great for teachers, all the arithmetic is for a class setting. So as a homeschooler it didnt translate well but still a good source of wardolf math information.
