good picture&sound quality, but with side black columns ??
very good picture, easy installation;one minor and one strange compaint:1) don't know why, but I was unable to give COLOR video from (better) s-video (hosiden) connector output. Even after changing many quality cables and quality reduction adapters I was able to give COLOR s-video only together with (my old) Panasonic DMR-EX98 combo recorder... It could be the result of not so appropriate made pins inside s-video (hosiden) connector... ?2) sometimes 2 (small) black columns by each side of screen, but only with some AV equipment. I don't know if these are results of HDMI output from my SAT DVB-S2 receiver or not (probably not), but my old '2009 Panasonic plasma 50" TV, if connected standardly direct to SAT receiver, sees the whole screen WITHOUT any side columns, but... if through Tendak convertor, than 2 (small) side black columns always appeared.BUT! Contrary when I connect this Tendak convertor to another old Toshiba RD-XV50 combo recorder, no side black columns appeared and everything was ok :-) So appearance of black columns "depends" on what equipment you use...And I rather use more robust non-original 5V/220-240V 4A AC adapter instead of the original (weak) one.

GREAT Device - Does Just What I Needed It To Do - Performs Excellent !!!!
I purchased this device with the purpose of being able to record "real time" videos being played on my laptop from YouTube and other websites on my DVD Recorder's Hard Drive to create a DVD Disc of various accumulated funny clips that I come across during my surfing. That way, if I want to show them to someone, or just watch them myself again, all I have to do is play the DVD disc. No internet needed, no hunting for the clips again, no having to deal with the "ads" again, and so on. My DVD Recorder has an HDMI Output, but NO HDMI Input. It DOES have an S-Video Input though, so this Converter Device is connected between my laptop's HDMI Output and the S-Video Input on my DVD Recorder. It works perfectly and produces a great picture (for S-Video 480 P Signal). Very Quick and easy to connect up, and the Converter Device provided everything that I needed except for the single required HDMI cable. I, personally, just leave the converter connected to my DVD Recorder at all times, so that way, I'm "ready to go" without having to do anything! The only "draw back" that I see to this unit is that it does NOT have an "ON \ OFF" Switch on the converter, so I have to "plug \ unplug" the 5 Volt DC Power Jack on the Converter unit to control the power to the unit. I don't leave it constantly "powered up" if I am not using it at the time. But that is a very minor "aggrivation" in the whole scheme of things. It certainly does NOT change my VERY POSITIVE opinion \ rating of this product. and the device worked perfectly, first time, right out of the box!!!

Better Picture Quality
I really like this Tendak converter, for the following reason. have tried several different products that each convert an HDMI input signal to a Composite video signal and/or an S-video output signal, and this Tendak converter outputs distinctly better picture quality than all the others. Most notably, if a video scene is dark (e.g. a scene at night), the other converters each produce a Composite or S-video output signal in which the brightness is distinctly reduced, causing that output video scene to be distinctly darker than it was in the HDMI input (so much so that it can be virtually impossible to see what's going on in a dark scene). In contrast, this Tendak converter does not significantly change the image brightness during the conversion process, and darker scenes are just as watchable in the Composite or S-video output as in the HDMI input.

S-VIDEO side of video not giving video into DVD-R recorder IN and then HDMI out to TV set.
It seemed like a cut-and-dry application/ solution: HDMI comes from signal into INPUT. For output, it supports either CVBS or S-video. The CVBS signal (3 color composite) OUT goes to my input Yellow video/audio (R/W cable). THAT works fine and I get a signal to the TV set (both video and audio). I had S-Video Chosen on the Switch and NTSC switched properly. However, I even tried two new S-VIDEO cables (S-Video out from the new Tendak OUT to the S-Video into the IN (input) of my DVD-R recorder. No video signal. I can get audio but no video under that approach. (I also have the HDMI port out to the TV connection). What's going on? This unit was not replaced by Tendak - even though I asked for another courtesy one to ascertain whether the original one had a defective S-VIDEO circuit. Bad tech support and team that should be looking out for customer satisfaction since it says it supports S-Video and not willing to go the extra mile to do so. Rate: "*" Avoid Tendak like the plague it produces for customer satisfaction.

Sound gets degraded
Tried it to use it with my Apple TV and my Panasonic DMR-EZ28 to record Pluto TV movies on DVD. But did not like it cause Sound gets degraded with less level than original. And image is getting crop on the left and right and upper and bottom parts of the image. Compared with another HDMI to Component adapter that works much better. I just ended returning it

Works, but very finicky.
I actually returned one of these previously because I could not get any picture to display not matter what I did. After a lot of trial and error - I kid you not - I was able to get it working consistently when I don't plug in the adapter's power cord until AFTER the television and hdmi device are connected to power. Then I turn them on. It works, but I have no idea why. The english in the manual isn't very good, but I noticed a line in particular that alluded to this.In terms of video quality, I am satisfied. Definition is noticeably better than composite. Only issue is shades of red sort of 'bleed' off to the side. I noticed another review that mentioned the same thing. I can't say for sure if the device adds any display lag because I don't have solid method of measuring it at this time. What I will say is if it does; it isn't enough to notice for certain.Maybe there are better ways to run hdmi devices through s-video, but for now this little box gets the job done if it's set up right.
