Flood protection device
I bought this for a second home. I have already installed one in our other house at the water input location, just after the main shut off. I wired a sensor to the water heater, dishwasher, refrigerator, clothes washer, and basement utility sink. It activated once so far when the HVAC condensate pump failed, and water ran to the nearby water heater sensor. At the second house I need to get a plumber to shut the water off at the water main before I install this. I try to always shut the water off when i leave for a while, and I usually remember, but not always. With this, if I forget, it will avert disaster.

FloodStop Water Heater Leak Detector Kit with Automatic Water Shut-Of
Very simple to install.I already had all 3/4" threaded fittings in place and installed along with the yearly maintenance hot water heater tank drain.I took advantage of the opportunity and changed die-electric flex pipe at the same time.Unit came with ball in closed position. Powered it up and samples the open and closing procedure much to my satisfaction. I also had to do mortar repair for the chimney piping for heater and furnace, that location is very close and when a very small amount of moist hydraulic cement landed on the sensor in the hot water heater flood pan, ball immediately closed and alarm sounded. If you've ever had a hot water heater fail and your basement flood because the water pressure isn't halted, you know exactly why you need this device.

Decent device but...
Put this under my kitchen sink with point of use water heater. Later went with a whole house main shutoff wi-fi valve which should save the day in the event of a leak anywhere in the house.

Great protection
Although this is sold for protecting against a water heater leak, no reason you can't install it on your main water line and locate sensors appropriately. Then, if (and that IS a big IF), a leak occurs where it'll wet a sensor, your whole house is protected against a, well, flood due to a plumbing problem.A good point, the valve is a full-port ball valve so won't restrict water flow.Somewhat negative is the price and availability of additional sensors if you want to string up a bunch of them. And the connecting wires are a bit short for use as a whole-house system, although it's just wire, you can splice in more.Haven't had it trigger in a 'real' situation yet - I do have a bit of concern, if something goes wrong and the valve closes, there's no mechanical way to override it, better hope the electronics never fail.

Peace of Mind and Ease of Use
Installed the Flood Stop on the main water line in the crawl space of our vacation home. Took the plumber less than an hour to install the valve and took me about another hour to run the power and set up the control panel. Now we can leave our home and with the push of a button turn off all water to the house. It recently dropped to 20 below in a freak winter cold snap. The owners association was sendind out email warning home owners and reporting dozens of homes had suffered pipe damage and water leaks. While we were thousands of miles away, we had peace of mind that we would not come back to broken pipes and flood damage thanks to our Flood Stop. This is a great product that is elegant in its simplicity, and worth every penny.
