Q: can the Sail be easily unhooked and easily be reattached ...aka thunderstorms ????

This will depend on what you use to attach the tarp. I made mine easy to remove with the hardware they sell, loosen up the tension and then it comes down easily. They are very sturdy even in the wind if mounted correctly. Have not had to remove mine yet even with the storms we have had.

Q: What is the difference between the standard and non standard? Ie there is a 24x24x24 and a 24x24x24 standard

Probably the color. If there is an option for a heavier tarp then go with that one. I recommend you buy from this company. I have 3 of the tarps. A 24 × 24 square and 2 triangle 24x24. They are holding up well in the san Antonio heat. If it snows in your area take them down, to much weight, not for the tarp but from where you are hanging them. Great buy.

Q: When you mount it should it be tight or have some slack and should it be mounted higher on one side?

We like a bid of slack on ours to capture wind movements. We also overlaped them at different heights for a layered look vs a tent. WC

Q: Can they be rectangular ?

Yes they come in a rectangle but you have to order a rectangle
