One Man Army

I really like this album. Definitely a new vibe coming from ensiferum.the only tracks that I didn't like are Candor and Lies and it's Finnish version. 2 of Spades is a fun song. Definetly different for them. It's like a hair metal- europop- surf rock song with different content than ensiferum usual themes. But I like it. I'm going to go see them in concert this weekend and I couldn't be more stoked.

Okay, I waited a long time for this one and I finally got it. What's to say about it? It's different, that's for sure! First off the polished pro-tooled production is gone in place of a more straight forward analog sound that I love but has become so trendy the last few years, but my Finnish brothers and sister pull it off rather uniquely. I feel the bass could have been a lot higher in the mix but it's more jelled in the mix than anything. Drum sound is great guitars are powerful and clean. Vocally, their going for more of a harsh for verses and group choir for choruses instead of Sammi singing the chorus cleanly.Lets talk about the songs in general. We start off with a cool intro as always, then we go into Axe of Judgement which really comes out of the gates hyper speed. Heathen Horde and One man Army follow the same formulas and are decent songs and will most likely be live staples for tours to come. After this the record looses some steam but starts to get exciting again with the wonderful Two of Spades! This is classic Ensiferum! I really love the 70's Wild West, Western-disco tongue-in-cheek part. Some people would call it cheesey, I call it classic Ensiferum. and its little diddys like this that really made me fall in love with this band so many years ago! The rest of the album is a mix of more of the former part of the album mixed with some classic elements of albums past. In summary I really like One Man Army! I guess they had to do something different because they took a lot of s*** for Unsung Heroes which I thought was a brilliant album. But in the long run I think this album is a start of a new era for the band. Their on a new label their broadening their sound...I see nothing but blue skies ahead for this Finnish horde!

After a somewhat lackluster release with "Unsung Heroes", Ensiferum comes back strong with another epic album. "One Man Army" is everything you hope for when this band is in the studio. Beautiful musical interludes leading into heavier tracks, with a great mix of both male and female vocals. Whenever I listen to it, I can't help but feel like they had a blast writing and producing this album.

There are some strong tracks, no weak ones, but there are a few that really just don't have much going for them. These aren't enough to ruin the album by any measure, but it isn't quite as good as Victory Songs or From Afar.

Its a lot heavier than their previous albums. If you're already a fan of Ensiferum than this should be a easy decision. Worth the price for a double CD. Personally I liked Unsung Heroes better. I was a little skeptical due to the fact that this was released under Metal Blade records. To me that label has not really put out many good albums.

Another great album from Ensiferum. They seemed to have gone away from the Pagan/Viking metal sound a bit towards a more heavier straight forward metal sound. Great riffs, excellent production, really good tunes. This is less melodic compared to Victory Songs, not as much harmonizing vocals and more growling from Peter.

Fantastic...epic and melodic. Plenty of speed and aggression. A little bit of silly fun thrown in on "Two of Spades", which has an unexpected banjo-disco (?) bridge. Stick around for the "Bonus Song". My only nitpick is that the snare drum is pretty loud in the mix.

This is an excellent album full of strong songs. "Heathen Horde" and "Warrior Without a War" are tied for my two favorites. The only blemish is "Two of Spades" which, judging by the lyrics, is supposed to be a Western themed song, but the music sounds more disco. Oddly, they pull off the Western sound in "Candour and Lies" extremely well, so I'm not sure why the other fell down.But, the rest of the album makes up for it, and even "Two of Spades" isn't awful, just off.

Very good album, not the best from ensiferum, but great cd digi book presentation

Recreating the brilliance of From Afar after the slightly patchy Unsung Heroes, One Man Army perfectly blends all the best of Ensiferum. Fun tracks like Two of Spades, heavy tracks like One Man Army and complex tracks like Descendants, Defiance, Dominance make this a must buy.

One of Ensiferums best albums to date, it really is a tour de force of this superb band. Simply awesome........oh and their cover of Rawhide is Brilliant!

I wasn't sure I liked it at first listen, but it's amazing. My favourite is Descendants, but I also really enjoy My Ancestors Blood. Two of Spades is unusual in a very good way.Very mature and highly recommended!

Back with a vengeance superb

Wie habe ich mich auf dieses Album gefreut! Als ich den Titeltrack das erste Mal hörte, wusste ich das Ensiferum auf dieser Platte Großes vorhaben und ich wurde nicht enttäuscht.Alles beginnt mit dem Spannung aufbauenden Intro "March Of War", das sich dann in einem Melodic Death/Folk Metal Gewitter namens "Axe Of Judgement" entlädt! (Was für ein Start!!) Weitere geniale Tracks sind: "Heathen Horde", "Warrior Without A War", das im Mittelteil witzige "Two Of Spades" oder "My Ancestors' Blood" (Heathen Throne Part III).Die ganze Platte durch geht der Höhrspaß nicht verloren Ensiferum haben es wieder geschafft ein hammer Album abzuliefern. Nach dem eher zurückhaltendem Vorwerk Unsung Heroes, überzeugt dieses Album sofort vom ersten Höhrdurchgang an. Auch Live kamen die Titel der neuen Platte sehr gut rüber ;-)Die Bonus Songs sind naja eher durchwachsen, aber trotzdem hörenswert.Zum Schluss noch: Das Cover ist eines der besten, die ich je gesehen habe.

Ich finde das Album sehr gelungen. Speed- und druckvolle Songs wie Axe Of Judgement als Opener nach dem Intro, wie One Man Army und Two Of Spades begeistern mich ebenso wie epische, melodische Songs ala Heathen Horde, Warrior Without A War und Burden Of The Fallen. Aus meiner Sicht gibt es keinen echten Durchhänger, naja der letzte Song Neito Pohjolan, der irgendwie arg ins folkige, wenn nicht sogar Country abdriftet ist sicher Geschmackssache. Dafür entschädigt Descendants, Defiance, Domination, ein fast 12 minütiger epischer Song. Alles in allem habe ich alles, was mich in gute Laune versetzt: Tempo, Druck,geile Riffs und epische Choräle die einem nur eines sagen wollen: Hintern hoch und auf in die Schlacht..... Auch die Bonus CD ist kein Reinfall. Ganz im Gegenteil findet sich hier mit Warmetal auch ein Song, den andere ganz sicher auf ihrer Disk 1 hätten................................. Ich freue mich schon auf Ensiferums Battle in der Zeche Bochum live!!!!!!!!!!!!! Die CD macht Bock drauf.

Mit ihrem 6. Studioalbum "one man army" fahren die finnischen Folk/Viking Metaller wieder richtig schwere Geschütze auf. "Ensiferum" greifen natürlich wieder auf altbewährte Songstrukturen und Melodien zurück, allerdings wirken die Songs kraftvoller und auch der Härtegrad hat wieder zugenommen. Melodische Gitarrenriffs, fette Bass-Attacken, ein treibendes Schlagzeug und epische Chöre zeichnen die Songs aus - Herz was willst du mehr! Der sechste Longplayer der Finnen glänzt auch durch eine qualitativ hochwertige Produktion, der Sound wirkt ausgereift und gekonnt arrangiert - da passt wirklich alles zusammen.Ich bin ein Freund von schönen Melodien und epischen Chorpassagen und auf "One man army" komme ich diesbezüglich voll auf meine Kosten.Anspieltipps würde ich jetzt keine geben wollen weil das Gesamtpaket einfach stimmig ist und alles zusammenpasst. "One man army" wirkt wie aus einem Guss und besticht durch seine Gesamtheit, die Songs sind allesamt aus dem oberen Regal - tolles Album!Mein Fazit: Wer auf Pagan/Folk/Viking Metal steht wird mit dem neuesten Output der Finnen vorzüglich bedient. Alles was dieses Genre auszeichnet und beinhalten sollte haben die Jungs um Markus Toivonen auf dieses Album gepackt und einen fetten, monumentalen Brocken geschaffen!Schwachpunkte oder Lückenfüller habe ich jetzt keine gefunden - Well done, Ensiferum!

Als langjähriger Ensiferum Fan und Besitzer aller Alben (auch des mäßigen Dragonheads) muss ich sagen: Ich bin mehr als positiv überrascht worden von diesem Album. Alleine das Intro hat mich wieder an die gute alte Victory Songs Zeit erinnert. Mit dem ersten Lied und dem gewohnten Powerschrei geht es auch gleich gut a la From Afar zur Sache! Heroische Gesänge, Fetziges Schlagzeug und Gitarrenriffs wechseln sich mit epischem und ruhigem Männergesang ab. So will und mag ich Ensiferum!Ausgezeichnete Arbeit Ensiferum!

Hat 'ne Weile gedauert bis ich Zugang gefunden habe. Habe den Silberling immer mal wieder beiseite geräumt und ab und an mal in den Player gesteckt. Irgendwann hat's gefunkt ! Braucht keinen Vergleich zu scheuen mit "IRON" oder "From Afar". Nächstes Jahr auf alle Fälle wieder live !

Meine erste Death Metal (?) CD. Hat man sich an den gruseligen Gesang erstmal gewöhnt, sind die choralen Gesangsstücke und die orchestrale Musik ein Genuss, der mitreißt und den Hörer am Ende der CD in wohlige Entspanntheit entlässt.

Schöne Melodien (auch zum Mitgröhlen) und stimmige Songs. Habe auch nichts anderes erwartet. Mir persönlich gefällt zwar der Drumsound überhaupt nicht (klingt mir leicht übersteuert und plastikartig, z.B. From Afar war wesentlich besser), aber dafür zieh ich jetzt nichts ab ;)

Despues de un bache (su anterior album) vuelven con un execelente album, que gustará seguro a los amantes del folk/pagan/viking metal
