Finding the right shoe trees
I bought a 2 pack of these Cedar Essentials (woodlore ultra style) in large along with a 2 pack of "STRATTON MEN’S ADJUSTABLE SPLIT TOE CEDAR SHOE TREE - GROWN IN USA (Large / 10 - 11 US)" trees. I tried them both in many of my shoes sized 10D (dress shoe size) to 11E (sneaker size) and found that with these Ceder Essentials, the high vamp combined with weak spring makes the toe not split much, but the larger round heel is nice though being also rounded on bottom keeps it from going as deep down in shoe's heel (not really an issue). Some of the shoes benefited a little from high vamp, though it seemed none of them actually needed it. No defects, no sap, no cracks on these. The Stratton tree is the same as the woodlore split toe combination shoe tree type with standard vamp and narrower heel, and I found that because it has a strong spring, the toe splits wide to fill up shoe and that the high vamp isn't needed on most shoes, but the narrow heel isn't as good at evening out the tension from the spring. These trees all had a bit of dried sap on them along with one crack that I had to sand down. If I had a shoe that had the toe curling up from use, the strong spring in these would be better at trying to fix/flatten them. The CE spring would not be strong enough to do that.On a pair of Alden boots, the high vamp on the CEs wouldn't allow the shoe's toe to fit all the way in, so those needed the lower vamp style. For those I actually swapped the heel and toes between the brands so that I ended up with the low vamp stratton with CE heel to put in the Alden boots.I'd buy both again, though I'm thinking the better design is the Rochester shoe tree Woodard style (they make/have made trees for many companies including Florsheim, Alden, Nordstrom, Dillards) similar to Stratton where it has the low vamp split toe, strong spring, but the heel is much wider and more rounded with a flat bottom. Only downside is those aren't sold in 2 packs so cost more.

Runs slightly large
High quality and well made. An almost ethereal feel that is entirely impressive yet impossible to grasp. It would slip through your fingers and onto your shoe if you weren't awestruck with incredulity by it's sheer virtue. Function in the form of Art. As much a part of the display as the shoe itself. Incredulous.

1 right 3 left
I received 1 right foot and 3 left. I needed right away and didn’t return. I probably should have returned.

Seems like decent product
Although seems like a decent product (it would be difficult to screw it up) don’t be misled thinking it’s an American product, it is made in china

Great value. Good construction. Does the job.
Considering how much you could spend on cedar shoe trees, these provide an excellent value. While allegedly the split toe style cedar tree is not the best design, trying to get other trees can cost you an arm and a leg. These do the job, are very well constructed, and the cedar wood is very aromatic. You open the box and it smells fantastic. The craftsmanship is good. The wood is high-quality. They do what they’re supposed to do. I can’t ask for much more than that I am very satisfied with the purchase. There are some types of shoes that these fit better than others. They did not work well with my pointed toe cowboy boots. They have a pretty tall ridge and that means at times you do you have to give a good push to get them to fit into some shoes. If you have very narrow shoes or shoes with quite a low vertical profile, these may not be a perfect fit. Also, I wear between a size 10 and an 11-1/2, depending upon the manufacturer, and I was a bit concerned that these might be too small (I bought the Large size). They absolutely were not. In fact, for some shoes I probably could’ve had a medium size shoe tree just because of how these fit in the shoes.

Very nice cedar shoe trees
I really like these shoe trees. They had a wonderful cedar scent right out of the box. The XL fit my size 12 shoes very well, and they keep my shoes in the proper shape when they're not being worn. My shoes look better already! Cedar absorbs moisture and odors so my shoes don't smell. They seem well made, and I really like the brass knobs for putting them in or out. I think they are a great value and I plan to order more.

Weak springs and brass that is often damaged.
These are sub standard shoe trees. The first set I ordered had a brass fitting that was only half plated. I return those and the second pair was better but still not perfect (scratches on brass from not enough packaging. The big problem though is that the springs are far weaker than other shoe trees, as a result they do not fit to the front of the shoe without a lot of adjustment.

and are a great price point for Canadians
These don't have as much spring in them as other shoe trees I've purchased, but do the job, and are a great price point for Canadians.

Higher instep than most shoe trees. Make sure it fits your shoe last.
The instep is higher than most of other shoe trees. Construction seems fine. I would prefer the golden knob to be fix( I glued it myself) instead of being able to come loose and screw down.
