Enjoyable, Quirky, and frequently hilarious space/fantasy adventure
Note: I have read all 4 currently installments of this series. The review is not particular to any one book in the series.TL; DR:These are fun books to read. The writing is wry, witty, and effective. The only objections to the Murderbot Diaries I can think of, are:1) They are expensive for their length. Four of these books make up one full length novel.2) Do not read as Science fiction. These books are more in the "Fantasy Adventure" genre.More (no spoilers):They are fun. Read them as comedy based on human nature (and frequently folly), and try to enjoy the occasional, sometimes almost philosophical, musings that arise from the fact that the protagonist is a security robot (SecBot), made from both organic and non-organic parts, living in and interacting with human society, "sort of" like a human. Its job and single purpose is to protect "its humans" (clients) from all threats (including other humans) in hostile environments. As the title of the series suggests, the stories are told by the protagonist SecBot. For some reason, I tend to think of the secbot as male, but I guess it really is - well, er, an "it".It is wary of humans, doesn't really "like" or "dislike" humans, but is not comfortable looking a person in the eye, or even standing close to one.It is easily bored, and often will resort to watching "Media feeds" on a compulsive level. It is constantly going through some sort of identity crisis. It finds itself wanting to help humans out when they make "stupid decisions made on the basis of bad information", while at the same time trying hard not to care what its humans / clients are up to at any given moment. There are some exciting action scenes, some fulfilling violence, a lot of intrigue, and some more or less complex plot turns. I've seen these books labelled as "Science Fiction". As such, the "Science" bit is not particularly impressive. It is superficially described as very distant future tech and serves mostly as an enabler for the robot concepts. I read this series as a funny, although sometimes thoughtful, fantasy/adventure action-comedy epic, and I believe that is what it's meant to be. Story wise, the series is not a very challenging read. Which is fine, really. It's not "Solaris", nor does it pretend to be.I find the writing to be effective and dynamic. The language is compact, energetic, very vivid and alive. Some sentences are funny gems, and then occasionally, a passage or two will come off as understated and profound.Highly enjoyable and recommended read. I had to choose between 4 and 5, and for me it's closer to 5, even if the books are somewhat expensive and short.

Fun, fast read
As expected, a fun, fast read. I found MuderBot even more charming in this one and the supporting cast was easy to like.

More Humans and a Pet Bot
Murder Bot wanted to go back to the planet where his original humans who stuck by him had been left to die, and yet somehow survived. His mission is to find out what the evil company was up to and get that information to Dr. Mensch. This adventure introduced him to a pet bot named Miki who called him her friend even after she knew he lied to her. MB gained the trust of Mimi’s person and then when everything turns to a dumpster fire it all becomes personal. Again. These are strangely enjoyable little adventures with MB that are all worth reading. 4.5 stars rounded up to five.

Martha Wells continues to impress me with the way Murderbot is portrayed
When we first met Murderbot the GrayCis Corporation attempted to kill Mensha and her crew. And once again the company is trying to cover up shady business deals. With the news of Murderbot’s disappearance reaching a wider audience, it makes the decision to help Mensha and her public battle against GrayCis. After all, if the news explodes with the truth about the corporation, they’ll forget all about a rogue murderbot, right?Sometimes you don’t realize what you’re missing until you witness someone else experience it. The introduction of Miki as a character was the reality check Murderbot needed. Miki brought to the pages a life Murderbot never imagined a bot being able to live. As Murderbot tried to identify and process newfound emotions, you couldn't help but feel for it as a new realization began to take place. And while the new feelings put them in multiple uncomfortable situations, it also paves the way for further character development. Not to mention Miki’s personality was adorable and the perfect counterbalance to Murderbot.Rogue Protocol shows how hard it is to break free of the cycle you’ve been living almost your entire life. Murderbot was fit into a box. Everyone around it believed it was only good for one thing. Follow orders and kill when necessary. This novel is a pivotal turning point for Murderbot. And as it forges a new path, Martha Wells shows the growing pains and self-doubt that Murderbot’s previous life has inflicted on it. Whether it's through a split-second reaction or the fear of being touched by a human, Murderbot has been subconsciously scarred.Martha Wells continues to impress me with the way Murderbot is portrayed. And as much as I love the characterization that takes place, the plot is just as good. No time is wasted introducing a new cast of characters with each novella. And there is plenty of action and suspense to go around. I cannot get enough Murderbot!

Very entertaining
Ty these are fun books. This was the least fun so far, because they are very formulaic. They would have been be better as one book, and now, at $12.00 per 160 pages… nah. Maybe I’ll just buy the last one, but not entirely sure. What is sure is I’m not falling for buying stories in itty bitty installments anymore.

Good story
I thought the first book was interesting and decided to get the next book in the series and it was even better. So after finishing the 3rd book I am really impressed that it has me intrigued enough to purchase the next one.I think Martha has done an excellent job in keeping the story not only interesting but very entertaining and eventful without a bunch of long winded writing that makes the story awful and boring. Great job!!!

Excellent read
This shy security bot, capable of murder and empathy is discovering feelings. The only downside is that each adventure / story is too short !

Sto ripetendo la recensione del libro 1 - I'm repeating book 1's review
Tanto per capire: libro 1 acquistato il 13/4, libri 2 e 3 il 14/4, libro 4 il 15/4, terminato oggi.Protagonista cinico q.b., gli altri personaggi molto ben caratterizzati, storia coinvolgente.Ad un terzo del primo libro ero già un grandissimo fan di Murderbot.---Just to put things in perspective: book 1 bought April, 13; books 2 and 3 the next day; book 4 yesterday, finished today.Main character cynical to the right level, other characters well developed, compelling story. After reaching 1/3 of book 1 I was already a huge Murderbot fan.
