Disappointing
I have probably 10 tangle books that I really like. This won't be one of them.Dingbatz is the author's name for tangles in frames--either partial frames, framed objects, or full frames that you draw around them.1. Lots of white space so there's not much instruction2. Lots of long winded descriptions and explanations of zentangle, the method, materials, etc. that you don't really need.3. The examples are already done and are only one square inch. That's super tiny.4. The few images there are were blurry. This is from taking an actual drawing, increasing the line width with a photoshop tool, then shrinking them down. This tool is for making lines bigger so they are easy to see. once you shrink the image down to 1 inch it becomes incredibly blurry. Even with a magnifying glass it was impossible to see the detail.5. This is part workbook so there are tons of empty pages for you to write in. I avoid workbooks for that reason. "Workbook" is not in the title.6. Adding up the white space, unnecessary descriptions, and blank workbook pages about half the book is completely useless. The rest is a collection of small blurry examples without describing how to get there.By the way, this book was written by an artist, but most of the book is text and micro-small images. There really wasn't much "art". :(

A new perspective on Dingbatz
This book focuses on one aspect of Zentangle, which is the small Dingbatz frames. However, for those readers who are new to Zentangle, there is instruction on the basic method as well. I have been practicing Zentangle since 2011, and I still learned new things from this book. Mr. Crimmins explores the history of Dingbats (distinct from Dingbatz) a bit, and explains how this Zentangle version compares to the traditional version. I appreciate that background. The book provides room for practicing patterns, which in my case, I probably would not use as I am familiar with most of the patterns presented, and I prefer to scribble away in a separate sketchbook, so in that respect, I do utilize the practice sections. The author's choice of patterns is unique among the images of Dingbatz I have seen in the past, so he brings a fresh perspective to this technique. He also has expanded the original concept of Dingbatz to include partial frames which makes this form even more versatile. However, where the book really shines for me is the abundance of interesting projects the author suggests. Ten minutes after I got the book, I had my pens and pencils out and was digging right in! Love this book!

Chock full of project ideas and inspiration!
For me this book is a combination of all the things I appreciate in this type of publication... a little background and history, some instruction with workbook-style pages so I can just grab a Micron and get down to tangling, along with a bunch of ideas that inspire me to use the patterns and projects right away. I had a couple of greeting cards to mail sitting on my desk when the book came and I will tell you they didn't leave my mailbox plain and boring. There must be a million different ways to interpret the contents of this book. I so appreciate the thoughtful attention to detail and the gracious sharing of beautiful examples. The possibilities are endless!

Rather disappointing there is so much white space...
Let me begin by saying that over all the feel and instruction of the book is good. It is a fine beginners book for those who need to start from the beginning to learn zentangles and dingbats. For me however, I was rather disappointed that there is so much white space. Dingbats are/can be small, wonderful creations and i feel the white space in the book could have been utilized better by adding in tons of examples for those who learn visually as well as instructional.. [me]. There is not near enough completed examples of dingbats for my liking. There are not nearly enough options for tangles to learn, For the size of book, there could have been so much more. Spacing for text and graphics could have been refined to better utilize the entire page. There are way too many books similar to this on the market.. I was hoping for a fresh new approach and just plain more with in its covers..There is some gorgeous lettering shown in several places, with no instruction for it to accompany the dingbats. Its shame, that would have been a wonderful addition..I was hoping for a book that would inspire me to draw, but this one falls a bit short for 160 odd pages.

What do i do with my Zentangle designs... answered!
I am a Certified Zentangle teacher . A question i am often asked is ... NOW WHAT? People are flummoxed as to how to use what they create. This book takes Zentangle to another level, and suggests applications. That being said, the author has included enough info about the Zentangle method that brand newbies can just jump in.I love the workshop aspect of the book as i can just grab a pen and the book and hit the road . It offers much to learn and room to practice!

Outstanding guide for making zentangles. BUY IT!
OMG...I bought this for my young niece as she loves zentangles, but I wasn't sure what I would be getting as I ordered it before publication.Let me say that this book is truly awesome. It's very professional, very instructive and a whole lot of fun. I liked it so much that I just ordered two more...one for me and another for some other kids who I think might enjoy it. I can't imagine how other books could be better. So glad I stumbled upon this gem. It's worth every penny.

Great purchase!
This is a great book with exceptional examples and stepouts. The size is perfect for sliding into your purse or backpack. I haven’t seen another book out there that’s like it. Love the section on applications: envelopes, calligraphy, greeting cards, poetry, fold outs, gift tags, and even weather grams. I’m loving this book!

Beautiful to look at, a joy to read, fun to practice.
I absolutely love this book. It's a great size (chunky and satisfying but small enough to be portable), it's beautifully laid out and full of inspiration. The text is easy to read and flows well, the pictures are gorgeous and it's very thorough, well-paced and fun. Brian has done a brilliant job with this book and it has already become a favourite. I have lots of Zentangle books but because this deals specifically with Dingbatz it is a nice change and if you are overwhelmed with choice when deciding what to create, this is a good antidote. A triumph.

I bought this book hoping that it would give me the skills and techniques to create artful dingbatz. I wasn’t disappointed, in fact it proved to be very useful with clear instructions and loads of examples. Practise exercises are given as well as some lovely projects. Well worth the money.
