Excessively verbose, wasting a lot of time to skip unnecessary details
I am at page 200 or so now, and have no doubt about the value of the book. I kind of love this book. I am sure that I will read to the last pages of it... some day.Problem is, it is way too verbose, extremely verbose. I am skipping almost 80% of the words, to exaggerate a bit. It is very hard to find the key point of each and every feature of the language it tries to introduce, buried under unnecessarily long background and introduction. No highlighting of the key concepts - just endless stream of words... making it really hard to find the paragraph / sample code that explains the key concepts. If you have limited time to learn C# / .NET Core, you may want to avoid this book, and find a thinner book.[UPDATE]Organization, explanations, and samples of some sections are below my expectations. For example, I am pretty disappointed with chapter 15, Asynchronous Programming. Explanations were not clear and very accurate, if not wrong. I had to search and read documentations / articles online on the subject to understand the feature enough. One example is the "Synchronization Context," which is pretty important for many non-trivial applications. I now have doubt that I would like to read through this book, most of the chapters, to the end...

This book is a MONSTER!
I'm only a few chapters into this book, but already I love it and know it was an excellent choice. This book assumes no existing knowledge of C# and very little knowledge of programming in general. Those who have C# experience will be able to skip many early chapters, but will find them a nice reference if they ever have a question or forget details about something. For those with programming experience in other language, including exposure to C and a little C++, I have been able to skim past some areas while learning C#-specific information. For anyone just starting, there will be a lot to learn, but this book will cover everything without magically assuming you learned it elsewhere. Once I've gotten up to speed, I can see using this book as a reference for a long time to come. The quality of writing in this book is top notch as well.

C#7.0 .Net Core 2.0 Book Review
The book is big, I'll say that. That said: a Karli Watson style book with example programs, No. Little bits of code to show his point is all you get for the size and price of the book. Not sure what he was thinking when he wrote it. To learn something you need example programs to show how a feature works, not a line or two of code. The book is not hard for me to follow, just hard to put things together and figure out how they work for real. You can download the book code, look out, it's big too. But, I don't learn looking at other peoples code, I learn by typing it in, seeing it run, stepping through it, and fixing the errors myself. The book is also very dense, lots of new things packed in small writing, hard for my eyes to see. Hope this helps others when deciding on a .Net Core book to learn from. I think better to go find an older one in the Beginning series, go through it and try to understand .Net Core then proceed to a book like this. Not sure what the authors were thinking when they wrote this book. Now that I've spent some time with it, it's more of an encyclopedia than a learning book. For me, the book is pretty much useless. About the biggest waste of money I've done for awhile. There are better books out there to learn .NET CORE, and the .NET CORE is now up to 3.1, so a book I bought recently is now outdated and useless.

Too comprehensive
This book is too comprehensive. The introduction takes you to page xviii, just telling you what it is going to tell you. Chapter 1 a history of .NET, CLR, Visual Studio etc....you're on page 38 before addressing the topic of C#. Good editing could probably shave a couple hundred pages from the book while making it more clear. The book contains such gems as "In case it shouldn't be allowed to create a class that derives from your class, your class should be sealed."(pg. 116)I am continuing to slog through the book, while looking for something better.

Wrox Rocks!
This book covers EVERYTHING! (almost) Wrox comes through again with top of industry content and presentation. Details you wont find elsewhere. If it is in C# 7 and Core 2.0 it is in this book. 1325 pages of examples and demonstrations without too much duplication and repeating. Unlike most books on VS 2017 this one is full of useful and detailed information.

The best, for now!
Great overview for any experienced programmers who don't know C# or who just need to learn the latest developments on this fast changing world of .NET Core. Well written and informative, each chapter gives a nice overview of a topic, gets one started writing real code, but thankfully doesn't try to be exhaustive. Each technology's main features and concepts are covered enough to get started. Its amazing how much ground he covers. The book got rid of any worries I wasn't using the right technology for the right problem!

Hard to follow
The way the writer sets up the concepts is hard to follow. Developers usually establish the "what" first then work towards the how. The writer takes the opposite approach of explaining the how first before explaining what he is building towards.

Excellent Guide to All Things C#
A very thorough and exhaustive reflection and tutorial on all things related to C#. I can't recommend it highly enough and since it's mainly referencing core C# it should hold relevancy for years to come.

How small is the font!
Disappointing as I prefer hard copy books. The font is so small this 52 yr old cant read it, returning for the kindle version which I can at least magnify.I'll update the review on the content when I can read it!

Great insight
This is a great book, very detailed and touching on the main areas of C# / .net programming. I would recommend it to beginners and -mid advanced people.

Big book - lot of info
As for most Wrox books this book gives in depth coverage of .Net Core 2. By the time I get through the end I presume that I would have more or less great insight of most stuff .Net Core 2 has to offer. So far so good.

Sehr gutes Buch

A lot of information for a single book.
I use the book as study book. Not thet I am new to C# and .NET and its jungle.I jou go through it its verry verry dense in information. When you go through the chapters and make the exsamples you think you understand. Then after a few more chapters you go over the chapter again and find that you did not grasp it all. Then going over moere additional chapters and reading the chapter again you find out that you missed some terms and even after going over it again I missed probably something I will need later on. A verry good dense book a litle more attention on how to choose a framework would be welcome.
