great fun
I've had my power chisel five months and have used heavily it almost every day since. Like the other reviewer, my brushes wore down which fried the motor, but I shipped it off to Arbortech and they fixed it and sent it back immediately. The tech there (Brian- a really nice guy and easy to talk to) sent extra brushes and explained to me how to check them. It's pretty simple and I'll have no problem doing it in the future.It's a tool that needs to be maintained - you HAVE to give it a drop of oil every 15 minutes and apparently check the brushes after a couple months of heavy use, but it is really fun and easy to just pick up and start using. I love it!

Excellent price for a tool I wanted
I have not been able to use this power chisel yet but anticipate doing so in the coming months. I will try to update the review at that time.

This is a great tool. Easy to use and reacts well to your movements. Cuts hard wood like butter. Make sure you also purchase the chisel kit, as this product only comes with one chisel, and it's the largest chisel head they have available. That said, don't purchase this item here. Treeline is charging top dollar for this item. Price gouging Amazon customers because they're the only distributor here. Get this carver at Bailey's. Google it online because Amazon will not allow linking here. Bailey's price is $169 for the complete set (head unit, motor, and 1 chisel). They also have the Arbortech Carver there for the same price. Meanwhile, Treeline sells theirs for $213. What a rip off. Also, make sure you read the product descriptions before buying. If it's a reduced price, it's usually just for either the motor only or for the head unit only. I use these two tools for wood work, and they work great. Purchase them, but make sure you don't get ripped off. Price surf. Good luck.Update as of 6/24/2010: I just recently bought a replacement carbide cutter blade from Bailey's for my carver tool and discovered that their price for this power chisel has increased to $239. like butter? Must be cutting butter
It does work makes smooth cut, like butter? Must be cutting butter, even basswood very slow thin cuts only noisy . gets hot fast , one hit with mallet will take off 5 times the wood , disappointed in tool was absolute ly not worth price

Arbortech Power Chisel, Don't Leave Home Without it
I carve my ideas in wood as a hobby. I purchased the Arbortech power chisel as a means of making my hobby more productive. This tool has got to be the best thing since Mom's apple pie. A carpenter friend of mine borrowed it and the next day ordered one for himself.

plastic parts, really ?
I used for an hour before the tool heated up to the point where the internal bushings (made with plastic) melted. Yes, I oiled the tool before using. It doesn't make any sense to me that a manufacturer would use plastic in a tool where heat build up is part of the natural workings of the tool.
